Born and raised in Oklahoma, David Roper attended Abilene Christian University, earning a
BS in Bible, Practical Field, and an MS in Bible and Related Studies. He and his wife, Jo,
have three daughters, two sons-in-law, two grandsons and one granddaughter.
Having preached his first “full-length” sermon at age 17, David began
“every-Sunday” preaching at age 18. While in college, he preached for three
small congregations in Oklahoma and Texas. Since graduating from ACU, he has preached
for seven congregations: Village, Oklahoma City (now Quail Springs), 1956-60; Westside, Muskogee, Oklahoma, 1960-67;
Macquarie, Sydney, Australia, 1968-77; Eastside, Midwest City, Oklahoma, 1977-81; Brown Trail, Fort Worth, Texas, 1981-87;
Central, Cleburne, Texas, 1987-1993; Judsonia, Arkansas, 1993-1996;
He now lives in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
David has preached in gospel meetings in many U.S. states, Canada, and Australia. He has
spoken and taught at ACU lectureships, ACU Bible teachers workshop, Oklahoma Christian
lectureship, Harding 10-in-1 workshop, and Michigan Christian College lectureship. In 1974
he preached in England, Scotland, Italy, and Australia. He shared the gospel in Turkey, Japan, and Romania.
A missionary in Australia for ten years, David worked with the Macquarie congregation in
Sydney and the Macquarie School of Preaching. He wrote a book on the history of the church
in Australia: Voices Crying in the Wilderness.
The associate editor of Truth for Today, David is also a full-time writer for the publication. He is
helping to develop a Printed Preacher School for overseas preachers and
teachers, writing the eleven-part series on Acts, the ten-part series on Revelation, and the fourteen-part
Life of Christ series. He has authored the first six
volumes of the Truth for Today Commentaries: Acts I and II;
Revelation I and II; and the Life of Christ I and II. Best known of David’s works is
the tract “The Day Christ Came (Again).” He has authored over 30 other books and
booklets. Two of the latest are Practical Christianity: Studies in the Book of James and
Let's Get Serious About Love. He has also contributed to various gospel publications.
With his special interest in teaching in general and visual aids in particular, David has
conducted teacher-training workshops widely. He has authored various books on visual aids,
including Teach Your Best With Visual Aids (formerly Give Your Lessons a Visual Punch) and
The Simplified Visual Aid Filing System. For three years, David hosted the TV program “Truth in
Love.” For six years, he
was a speaker on the radio program “Radio Bible School.” An experienced
magician, he has also written several books on entertaining with magic. As a free-lance writer, he has had
numerous stories and articles printed in Boy’s Life, Highlights
for Children, Christian Woman, and other publications.
